Ms. Joan Davis Gray, 49, passed away Sunday September 4, 2016 at Novant Hospice Care Center in Charlotte, NC. She was born October 11, 1966 in Manhattan, NY to the late Ruth McCullough and Joseph Davis Sr.. 

Joan graduated from Olympic High School and attended UNC Charlotte. Joan worked at TIAA-CREF for over 10 years.

She became a member of University Park Baptist church in 2001 where she joined several ministries such as the Single’s Ministry, Room in the Inn and the Women’s Choir. She began her battle against breast cancer in 2010. During her fight she remained faithful, hopeful and determined. Though she was sick, you would never know as she never complained, never stopped smiling and never gave up. Those who knew Joan knew that she was a fashionista who loved to bargain shop and put clothes together as if she were going to a party on a weekday. She was the type of mother who put her children first making sacrifices everyday. She worked hard to make sure they knew Christ and loved the church. She spent years nurturing and spoiling her granddaughter Malia taking her everywhere she went. Joan did not have enemies, for anyone who came into contact with her; fell in love with her beautiful spirit immediately.

She leaves her four children, Cameron Gray, Roderick Gray, Jocelyn Gray and Shanay Gray of Charlotte, NC. She leaves a brother Joseph Davis Jr. of Charlotte, NC and a sister Daphne Brown of Charleston, SC. She leaves six grandchildren; Malia, Shauntia, Cameron Jr., Zamora, Zoe, Isaiah; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
