Lady Edith
Edith Randall received her wings and went to be with her heavenly father on January 18, 2021.
She was born Edith Walker on February 28, 1930, in Leland, NC. Although she was the only child to Marzella Grainger and Matthew Walker, she was raised with her aunts Lizzie & Sittie and cousin Shirley as her sisters in Wilmington, NC.
In true love story form, her neighbor Ernest Randall would walk past her house every day professing his love for her, telling her “I’m going to marry you” and she responded, “I wouldn’t marry you if you were the last man on earth”. However, on August 14, 1949, the two were married in the backyard of his mother’s house.
The couple moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1950, where Edith’s first job was at a pocketbook factory. Edith and Ernest welcomed their first daughter, Gail, and their son Charles followed exactly one year later. Ten years after that, their 3rd child Jacqueline “Renee” arrived. They also had the honor of raising their granddaughter Monique from the age of 3.
The couple purchased their home in Jamaica, Queens in 1966. Edith, also known as “The Diva” became a fixture on the block of 173rd street. She was known for being a mother to all and never having a strand of hair out of place. She enjoyed cooking meals for her family and everybody wanted a piece of her sweet potato pie and a scoop of her potato salad.
Edith was a dedicated and faithful member of Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church (UMC), where she worked with the Vacation Bible School and the Senior Ministry. She loved her church family and instilled the love of God in her own family and created a bond that will never be broken.
Edith is predeceased by her devoted husband of 56 years, Ernest Randall, her bother Matthew Walker Jr., her aunt Elizabeth Bogus “Lizzie”. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her legacy, her daughter Gail Randall (Janice) of San Leandro, Ca., her son Charles Randall (Carolyn) of Rosedale, NY, her daughter Jacqueline Renee (Michael) Fields of Charlotte, NC; 6 grandchildren, Monique Burnette (Jermaine), Sabria (Ike) Chidomere, Domonique (Akeem) Comas, Charles (Rosa) White, Ernest Randall, and Jerell (Terese) Fields; 10 great-grandchildren, Landon, Fharren, Saniya, Braylen, Elliyah, Cameron, Londyn, Amare, Caleb and Bryce; 1 sister, Mildred Williams; 1 niece, Bonita (Rick) Sargeant; 1 aunt, Izabelle Grainger “Sittie”; her California god-children, the Murray family, her 173rd street family, and a host of relatives and friends, with special mention to her cousins Ellen “Rochelle” McEachern, Jackie Graham, and Dwayne Grainger.
“Well done my good and faithful servant”
