Darryl Andre Johnson , “DJ” departed this life on Sunday, November 1st at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Darryl was born in Syracuse, New York on February 20, 1969. He moved to Rochester, Minnesota where he lived until a teenager, and then moved to Charlotte, NC where he completed his high school years at West Charlotte High School. Darryl was an avid soccer player, and loved to golf, play pool, and spend time cooking and having fun with friends and family. He was loved by all who met him. He had an amazingly contagious laughter, a heart-melting smile, and a beautiful sense of humor. He could change your bad mood into joy, just by walking into the room. Happiness was one of his special gifts to all who knew him. He has left their lives a little more filled with laughter and with smiles. Darryl was preceded in death by his father, Willie Johnson. He is survived by his Mother, Paulette Johnson-Davis, his son, Andre Johnson, five loving aunts, Florene Smith, Brenda Lane (Alvin), Loretta Kirk Adair (Andrew), Jeanette Kirk Hall (Therrell), and Bobbie Kirk, his uncle, Milan Kirk, and a host of close, loving cousins, other relatives and especially his Charlotte friends, as well as his beloved dog Gracie. A wake will be held at Wayne Russell Funeral Service, 3715 Beatties Ford Road, from 6:00pm-7:30pm on Thursday, 11/5. Funeral services will be held on Friday, 11/6 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1300 Hateras Street. Visitation at 10 am and the service will begin at 11 am.
