Cynthia Taylor
Cynthia Marie Taylor passed away from this life into eternal life on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at
Novant Hospital in Huntersville, NC. She was born on April 28, 1953, in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of
the late Amos Moses and Josephine Margaret DeLavallade Taylor. She was the youngest of six children.
Cynthia graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in New Orleans, LA with the class of 1971. While at St.
Mary Academy she played the clarinet and was a member of the marching band, She earned a BA degree in
Elementary Education from the Southern University of New Orleans.
Cynthia accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was very active at First Street United
Methodist Church in New Orleans, LA where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Voices of Faith
Choir, and a soloist until moving to Huntersville, NC after Hurricane Katrina. Cynthia joined University
City United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC where she was a member of the choir until her illness.
She always enjoyed singing and her favorite song was “God Will Open Doors” by Walter Hawkins.
Cynthia loved children and fulfilled her lifelong passion by educating/teaching children for 21 years in
New Orleans, LA, and 10 years in Charlotte, NC. She loved the enthusiasm of children while teaching
them to read.
Cynthia had pep in her step, rhythm in her feet, and loved the New Orleans Saints. Her annual treat to
herself was traveling back to New Orleans, LA, and riding in the Zulu parade during Mardi Gras. She
enjoyed cooking and learned how to prepare the delicious dishes of New Orleans, especially Seafood
Gumbo, by watching her mother. She also enjoyed fellowshipping with the Retirees Birthday Club once a
month to celebrate birthdays.
Although Cynthia did not have any children, she treated her nieces and nephews like they were her own.
She would take them places, buy them treats, give them gifts, teach them, and had special greetings
such as “Hello person!” which were examples of her devotion and sense of humor.
Cynthia is survived by her sister Jacqueline Taylor, brother Ronald Taylor (wife Joy Taylor), Godchild
Ayanna Taylor-Bonds, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by
three brothers: Amos Taylor III, Allen Taylor, and Richard L. Taylor Sr.
Visitation will be held at University City United Methodist Church 3835 West W.T. Harris Blvd., Charlotte,
NC 28269 on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 9 AM followed by a celebration of life service at 10 AM.

Visitation in New Orleans, LA will be held at Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home 2120 Jackson Ave.,
New Orleans, LA 70113 on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 11:30 AM followed by burial at Providence
