The Rev. Dr. Clarence "Don" Steger
was born on August 29, 1935, in Maysville, Alabama
to Fred and Lula Steger.
He was joined in marriage to Elizabeth Sutton on June 1, 1956
They were the proud parents of one daughter Lisa. He was preceded in death by his
parents and one sibling Annie Mary.
Dr. Steger received degrees from Bethune-Cookman College, Gammon Theological
Seminary, and the University of South Florida. His accomplishments and accolades are
numerous.
Don Steger was many things to many people. By his own admission, countless
individuals, groups, and the Charlotte community, in particular, contributed much to his journey.
He was an effective civic leader, an educator, a skilled orator, and the First Pastor of
Reeder Memorial Baptist Church for more than thirty years.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth, his daughter Lisa,
grandson Joshua (Nicole), great-grandson Josiah, and granddaughter Jordan. His siblings include
Fannie J. Bone of Tennessee, Clifford Steger (Brenda) of Tennessee, Rev Thomas Steger
(Gloria) of Georgia, Frances Lee (Lorene) of Tennessee, Marie Vicks (Dan) of Georgia, and a
host of nieces and nephews
