Catherine Gay

                                              Lady Catherine

Catherine was born in Southern Pines, North Carolina (Moore County)
to Senora and Benjamin Phillips on December 12, 1930. She went home
to be with Jesus on February 18, 2021, after being blessed to celebrate
her 90th birthday.
 She relocated to Durham, North Carolina in 1945 and attended the Durham public schools.
 She met and married Willie Hayes Gay II who preceded her in death on
September 19, 1977. To this  union, there were three children born Gloria,
Willa (Alan), and Willie III (Willie III preceded her in death on October 4, 1995
She also has 8 grandchildren Jaze, Crystal, Dustin, Jason, Joshua, Willie IV,
Addie, and Alex. She also has 13 great-grandchildren. Her brothers Archie
and Benjamin, sisters Louise and Gwendolyn all preceded her in death.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
 She was a very loving mother and always encouraged her children to reach
for the stars. Sher served as president of the Hillside High School Band Parents.
She lovingly participated in all of her children's school activities. 
 Catherine worked as a chef in several restaurants and ended her career at
 Dowd YMCA. She was the official caterer for Weeping Willow AMEZ for a number of years. She loved her church so much, that when she was paid for her service, she would sign the check and hand it back. She had such a passion for cooking and was always concerned that everyone got something to eat. When asked how she learned to cook so well, she said she cooked from the love in her heart. She was also the official caterer for Family Dollar Corp Office IT Dept. where she got rave reviews for every Christmas banquet.
If she saw someone who needed help, she was always there to lend a hand.
She will be missed greatly.
